Thesis Proposal

We are the MyVibes team. And I must say I am super duper happy with the outcome. It was one proud moment. ^__^

We just proposed our thesis this evening entitled "MyVibes: A PageRank-based Collaborative Filtering for a Music Recommender System". Basically it's a music recommender system that gives recommendations on what songs a user might like based on a song he/she likes.

Just before our defense, things seemed to go wrong for us. But the end was worth it. :)

That afternoon, me and my thesismates had to prep for our defense. Our schedule was 7pm-9pm in the evening. We went to our adviser to see what changes could be made. He gave us some tips and lots of advices. And so after, we had to edit some documents before we could print them. It took long though, since Kuya Genesis had to edit them using Latex. By that time, the weather didn't seem to cooperate with us. It was raining hard, there was practically thunder. It was already 6pm by the we went to the mall to eat an early dinner and buy the things we need.

We bought cakes and juice for our panelists, and rode a jeep back to school. We had to stop by an Internet station to print our documents. Then again, bad luck. There was really something wrong with the usb containing the files, and the files in it were either corrupted or it simply disappeared. Since the file was corrupted, we used the files in my laptop(and good thing I brought mine) and transferred it to the flash drive. But poof! Our files disappear by the time it was loaded into the other computer. And so, we ended up borrowing a flash drive from the store. Love you, Cherry! :)

We were fifteen minutes late for the defense. We were already rushing to the school. Worse, we were wearing high heels in the pouring rain. Cherry had wearing her shoes since 4pm. I just wore my new 3-inch heels and I didn't know how to walk in them! Urgh. I just could not imagine how we walked all the way to school.

By the time we reached the Grad Lab, we were very much nervous. Good thing though, we couldn't start yet since there was another group who has to present first. So we had definitely had time to prep. And despite being nervous, we were having fun reviewing and taking lots of pictures.

Defense Time!
I gotta say, having a mock defense gave us an advantage. Since of two of our panelists already saw our presentation during the mock defense, they definitely understood what we wanted to do. We orginally had 5 panelists, namely, 2 subject advisers, our thesis adviser, 1 faculty and the ComSci department chairperson. Unfortunately, two couldn't come. That left us our thesis adviser, and two subject advisers. And it was a total advantage to us. As our IT subject adviser told us, the result did not need to be deliberated.

Accepted!

But we still had some revisions to do. But its still a happy outcome. No re-defense. :D

Happy. Grateful to God. Thank you to Cherry and Kuya Genesis.
